The Hyperion 8x42 ED Binocular features an upgraded ergonomic chassis that makes holding it more comfortable, especially during long glassing sessions. Optically, it features phase-corrected BAK4 roof prisms, extra low-dispersion (ED) glass, and anti-reflection Super multi-coated (SMC) optics to produce a versatile and capable optic that produces bright and clear high-contrast images with true color rendition and virtually no color-fringing. Coupled with the optical features are 42mm diameter objectives which give the binocular very competent low-light performance. This combination of optics and objectives make the Hyperion ED ideally suited for most outdoor activities from hunting, to birding, to sporting events. The 62° apparent angle of view also helps to minimize the visible handshake common in higher-power binoculars.

The comfortable ergonomic chassis is made of a magnesium alloy to help reduce weight, without sacrificing strength while adding impact and corrosion-resistant. The optical tubes are wrapped with durable armoring which not only protects them from drops and impacts, it also gives the binocular a slip-resistant grip - especially in cold and wet weather. The optical tubes are nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed to be water and fog proof - especially in extreme weather conditions. A right-eye diopter adjustment allows the binocular to be customized to most people's needs, and twist-up eyecups mean it can be comfortably used with or without eyewear.

Optical Performance

  • High 8x magnification enables detailed observations of distant subjects
  • Larger 42mm objective lenses improve the light-gathering ability for enhanced low-light performance such as at dawn and dusk or when peering into the dense brush
  • Compact roof prism light path ensures the optical tubes remain slim for easier handling without affecting performance
  • Extra low-dispersion (ED) glass helps to correct chromatic and spherical aberration to improve clarity and sharpness with accurate color representation without ghosting or halos, and limited distortion — especially at the edges of the field of view
  • Anti-reflection super multi-coated optics provides a dramatic improvement in both color fidelity and brightness and the elimination of flare and ghost images
  • Phase-correcting prism coatings eliminate internal interference to improve color and contrast
  • Wide 68° apparent angle of view minimizes the appearance of the distracting handshake that is common when holding high-power optics while presenting a spacious and immersive observational experience
  • Generous 426ft field of view at 1000 yards
  • Short 6.56' close-focus distance

Use and Handling

  • Closed-bridge configuration provides a solid and stable platform for the internal focusing mechanism
  • Large slip-resistant center focusing wheel is easy to manipulate in cold and wet weather, even while wearing gloves
  • Right eye dioptric adjustment collar helps to compensate for individual eye prescription
  • Broad 56-73mm interpupillary distance adjustment range enables easy use by a wide variety of users
  • Twist-up rubber eyecups for comfortable use with or without eyewear
  • Tripod mountable with an optional adapter for hands-free use to eliminate vibrations and arm fatigue
  • 17.2mm eye relief allows for more comfortable viewing with reduced eye strain, especially during long-duration glassing sessions
  • 5.2mm exit pupil will cover most pupils as they open and dilate in low light to keep the whole scene in view without vignetting

Construction Details

  • Lightweight and durable magnesium alloy chassis material
  • Nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof and to resist internal fogging when moving between extreme temperature variations
  • Ergonomic body design positions the hand over the binocular's center of balance for additional comfort and reduced strain and fatigue
  • One-piece tethered ocular rainguard protects eyecups from water pooling in them from rain or spraying water when hanging from the neck
  • Protective black armoring provides a slip-resistant grip, especially in cold and wet conditions
  • Weight: 25.74 ounces
